The International Labour Organization has compiled a list of countries with higher employment-to-population ratios; let’s have a look at it. The ratio is a proportion of the country’s employed population to its overall working population. A higher ratio means that more people are employed. Now, let’s see which country has higher employment-to-population ratios.
While you might think developed countries like the US, UK or New Zealand are on top of the list, however, the data will surprise you. Qatar ranks first with 88.8 per cent of the population employed followed by Madagascar (83.6%), Solomon Islands (83.1%), United Arab Emirates (80.2%), Tanzania (79.3%), Burundi (78.1%), Ethiopia (77.6%), Mozambique (76.1%), Cambodia (75.6%) and Liberia (74.7%).
But if Qatar secured first, where do the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia rank? According to the International Labour Organization, both the US and the UK secured 59.6 per cent, while Canada has 61.7 per cent, New Zealand has 69.4 per cent, and Australia has 64 per cent.
The poorest employment rate is in Djibouti with 23.7 per cent scores, followed by Yemen (27%), Somalia (27.6%), Afghanistan (31.3%), and Jordan (31.9%).
