Job Description Summary
Within our Substation Automation R&D; organization, the role of the System & Solutions Validation Engineer is to execute the validation plan for the different software versions received for tests and ensure on time delivery with high-quality standards. The role also includes partnering cross-project with Project Managers, Technical Leads etc. to define the test strategy, drive implementation and provide regular updates. The candidate should also have a strong focus on Test Automation and should have proven experience in setting up / contributing towards the Test Automation Initiatives.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the quality of software products by creating and applying Embedded Software (Firmware) quality tests to a feature, set of features, or whole feature area. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team or to other teams across businesses.
  • Working closely with the Technical Lead in order to understand the specification and support the prepare the test strategy to have a full test coverage (traceability matrix).
  • Preparation of Test Plan, Test Case list ensuring a good test-coverage and Execution of tests as per the test case.
  • Identification of defects and support the different product teams for resolution.
  • Providing Local / Remote support to on-site engineers/ end customers and provide troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation.
  • Reviewing detailed functional and technical specifications.
  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Reviewing detailed functional and technical specifications.
  • Work with Customer Support personnel to resolve customer issues

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in ‘STEM’ Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience
  • Strong Knowledge of Substation Automation.
  • Hands on experience in creating test strategy, validating and testing of substation automation products and solutions
  • Knowledge of serial SCADA protocols (e.g. DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101, 103, Modbus)
  • Knowledge of LAN-based SCADA protocols (e.g. IEC 61850-8-1, DNP3/TCP, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus TCP)
  • Demonstrates expertise in writing scripts to automate tasks with tools such as python etc.
  • Experience with Agile software development, project management methodologies
  • Good knowledge of virtualization (VMWare, VCenter, Hypervisor) is highly appreciated
  • Strong Critical Thinking/Problem Solving Skills.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows, good knowledge of LDAP (Active Directory) administration is highly appreciated
  • Ability to work independently and should be a good team player
  • Flexible and adaptable; open to change and modification of tasks, display initiative
  • Able to share ideas and work well in a team environment.
