Sr. Software Engineer, API Development – Direct Hire/North Austin
DISYS has partnered with an enterprise-level firm in the north Austin/Domain area to hire a Sr. Software Engineer with expertise in RESTful API design and development.

Job Summary:
In this role, you will help build a new API-led connectivity platform that helps unlock capabilities across all business units via a centralized API storefront.
As a senior member on this team, you will be expected to be extremely hands-on and drive strategic API centric integrations with stakeholders across business units, reference implementations, and spend significant time building a reliable, scalable and performant platform on AWS. You will be required to influence the API strategy for teams looking to adopt the platform and guide them through their API journey. The ideal candidate will have prior experience building/maintaining a public facing API product (API Management tools, Security, SwaggerHub etc.). With aggressive goals over the next couple of years, they are looking for candidates with a passion for APIs and a can-do attitude!
Your Role:

  • Ability to work independently with stakeholders across various business units and guide them along their API journey.
  • Excellent communication skills — the role involves a high level of interaction with senior stakeholders across multiple business units.
  • Display a high level of critical and original thinking to drive improvements/innovations to the API platform
  • Craft/develop high level Design Artifacts/Best Practice & Reference implementations that enable adopters to build a consistent, cohesive set of APIs to onboard to the API Storefront.
  • Able to articulate key issues and draft action plan and communicate with management
  • Ability to groom/guide and mentor junior members on the team

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience in a senior technical role with direct hands-on skill set.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and development of REST APIs.
  • 3+ years of experience working on either AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Strong background in a high-level language (C# or Java), Data management (SQL and NoSQL technologies).
  • Ability to communicate, influence other supporting teams such as product, QA, devops, etc. to achieve the objectives.
  • Knowledge of development tools such as Visual Studio, Git, Jenkins, Jira, Fisheye, SVN, Eclipse or equivalent
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to drive all phases of development cycle including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, rollout, and support
  • BS in Computer Engineering/Science or related degree, or equivalent work experience in lieu of education.

Highly desirable skills:

  • Prior experience building/maintaining a public facing API Product (API management tools,)
  • Hands on experience working with AWS API gateway and solid understanding of usage plans and API monetization strategies.
  • Contract first API design experience
  • Understanding of OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
  • Ability to break work into incremental chunks that deliver value.
  • Master Degree preferred.
