Senior Scrum Master/Scrum Master
TheSeniorScrum Master acts as the servant leader and coach fortwoor more delivery teams within the organization. An effectiveSeniorScrum Master promotes attributes of a high functioning dedicated agile team, include perpetuating team dynamics of support and value driven delivery, protecting the teams from outside interference, removing impediments, facilitating Scrum rituals, driving continuous improvement and promoting healthy Agile practices within the teams and across the organization.As part of a larger community of agile practitioners, he/she is an advocate ofAgile values and principles within the teamsand across theorganization. Including, supporting ScrumMasters as needed and helping to identify areas wherePrinciple Scrum Mastersand Coaches should focus on helping managers and teams improve theirinteractions.Senior Scrum Masters might also be a Chief Scrum Masteron smaller-scaleprograms.Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 6-12 years of overall experience working in a software development organization, preferably in an agile environment
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience supporting up to 3 teams as a Scrum Master.
  • Experience working in an iterative Development environment, utilizing Scrum practices.
  • Experience with Scrum, Lean and/or XP inspired practices required
  • Familiarity with one or more Agile methodologies such as Scrum, XP, Kanban
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Jira, Rally, GitHub preferred
  • Scrum Master Certification required
  • Exceptional communication/interpersonal skills and organizational skills
  • Willingness to provide direct and honest feedback to team members
  • Excellent facilitation and mentoring skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all layers of the organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • High level of motivation

Agile-Lean Knowledge

  • Displays a solid understanding of Scrum values and framework, agile values and principles and can identify the differences between what is desired and current state on their teams.
  • Actively pursues and is able to help teams effectively use a range of industry generally-accepted practices from other areas such as XP, Kanban, Lean, Design Thinking, etc.
  • Can identify anti-patterns preventing the teams from achieving agility and continuously improving and explain why they are anti-patterns.

Teaching

  • Ability to launch and train new Agile teams
  • Ability to train Product Owners on their role, backlog management and user story writing

Mentoring

  • Mentors the team in ways that help them to embed working agreements, retrospective improvement plans, definition of ready, definition of done and other concepts into the culture of the team.
  • Mentors other scrum masters in agile values and principles, practices, and concepts
  • Mentors product owners in other industry practices related to product management/ownership that helps them become stronger in their role

Facilitating

  • Facilitates from the ‘back of the room’ and allows the team to self-organize in order to solve

problems and develop ideas. Gently guides the conversation as needed and recognizes what is happening in the conversation beyond what is spoken.

  • Teaches the team not to be dependent upon the Scrum master for facilitation and collaboration and promotes self-organization and maturity in the purposes of Scrum events.

Coaching

  • Effectively uses powerful questions to help the team gain new insights and ideas
  • Displays an ability to help the team identify and solve root causes of problems rather than constantly focusing on symptoms.

System Thinking

  • Is able to identify organizational impediments that limit team productivity and quality.
  • Able to observe the team and articulate what is going in a natural, non-judgmental way in service of the team becoming more self-aware.
  • Promotes cross functionality on the team and the development of ‘T’ shaped people. Helps the team develop ways to cross pollinate learning and expertise.

Leadership

  • Influence and Inspire – Constructively influences others to work toward a common goal. Inspires change in others
  • Servant leadership – Empathetic and effective leader that builds trust and focuses on the needs of the team.
