Position Summary:
seeking a highly motivated leader to join our Open Innovation team who has extensive experience and a strong track record of negotiating and executing business opportunities within the life science technologies space.
This resource will play a key role in collaborating across the organization to curate, prioritize, and drive Open Innovation opportunities through every stage of maturity within CUSTOMER, R&D and Business Units using established Open Innovation processes
The preferred candidate should possess strong business competencies, technical/scientific curiosity and knowledge of medical devices and market needs along with a passion to contribute in a hands-on role with a dynamic range of engagements.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for collaborating across the organization to drive the practice and process of Open Innovation ensuring stakeholders are aligned.
- Accountable for evaluating, structuring, negotiating and executing external Open Innovation business opportunities to translate good scientific ideas into sustainable, profitable business models while working across all discipline areas that are of strategic interest to CUSTOMER.
- Leads open Innovations engagement of partnerships, research collaborations, in-/out-licenses, IP options of technology and products to a successful handoff to the BU, R&D, Finance and Legal teams and provides guidance/oversight throughout the NPD process.
- Develops identification, evaluation, cultivation and management of Open Innovation partners in alignment with CUSTOMER overall Business Strategy, Tech Roadmaps and Key Initiatives
- During OI partner cultivation phases, provides significant contributions including strategic fit, due diligence, structuring of business frameworks, term sheet development and contractual agreements.
- Manages cross-functional due diligence efforts and applies understanding of technical, legal, financial and market dynamics which have bearing on final agreements.
- Drives and identifies synergies across SCIEX and across the Life Science Platform and prioritizes engagement of external technology and OI opportunities suited for, and mapped to, gaps in CUSTOMER knowledge, capabilities and/or technology with a timeline horizon of 1-to-5 years from market leverage.
- Contributes to Monthly Open innovations Board Reviews and Quarterly Strategic Innovation Reviews including OI funnel overview, health, Open innovation engagement status and Open innovation KPI commentaries
- Drives continuous improvements to the CUSTOMER Open Innovation practice and process
- Contributes to the evaluation of inorganic opportunities (venture investments, technology acquisition) in coordination with Business Development including opportunity assessment, evaluation, technical assessment and due diligence
- Monitors the scientific and related industry trends for CUSTOMER’s strategic intents, and works with the rest of the organization to identify new opportunities and enhance business ventures
- Ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Certain personal attributes and requisite prior experiences will be necessary components of the successful candidate’s background for the role:
- Significant experience in the instrumentation, medical device, software, healthcare or life science research industry and understanding of the market dynamics and competitive landscape.
- Proven track record of strategic thinking, solid business acumen, problem solving and execution for results
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including a metrics-driven approach to decision making
- Ability to analyze complicated issues and synthe to the salient points, develop resulting action plans and execute to conclusion
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and successfully influence senior level management, executives, key clients, and stakeholders at all levels
- Detail-oriented, creative and intellectually curious with a strong work ethic; able to accelerate delivery of solutions in a fast-growing environment
- Acquisition experience in the analytical instrumentation and associated software industry is a plus
- The successful candidate will possess as a minimum an analytical sciences undergraduate degree with an MBA or equivalent business experience
