About the Role:
We seek a highly-motivated and enterprising senior lawyer to become a member of the legal team of one of India’s best start-ups.
The Legal Counsel will work on Freshworks strategic involvements in Licensing, Partnerships and Customer side of business. Broadly, the work will constitute 45% of the Counsels time in working on privacy related work, 45% in supporting sourcing team / procurement team, and 10% in supporting M&A team.
Responsibilities :
Draft, review, negotiate strategic contracts related to vendors and product integrations. Efficiently manage risk and ensure business and compliance needs are accurately reflected in agreements.

- Strong communication skills and fluency in English (both written and oral).
- Good interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, since the role is business facing.
- Proactive in identifying risks and suggest solutions to mitigate it.
- Can work with team members across various levels
- Exceptional judgment and creativity, with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice appropriately weighing legal and business objectives.
- Can independently drive projects with minimal review needed.
- Become a mentor to junior counsels
- Ability to become a subject matter expert over time at least in one functional area.
- Positive attitude and sense of humor.
Qualifications & Experience :
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law. Strong academic credentials and admission to at least one state bar in India or abroad.
Preferable: Additional degree in Tech but not mandatory.
Experience: Minimum of 6 to Maximum 9 years of relevant professional work experience as an in-house counsel of an IT/product company. Experience structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including software licenses and SaaS agreements.
Preferable: Someone from a similar industry background with hands on experience and CIPP certification
