The Railway Recruitment Board has released a notice for Non-Technical Popular Categories with the announcement of 11,558 posts for graduates and undergraduates. The candidates who are preparing for this examination have the most common doubt regarding the scheme of examination means in how many phases the exam is conducted and how much time it takes for each phase to be completed. In the below article we are providing the scheme of NTPC examination in detail.

RRB NTPC 2024 Selection Process

The Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB NTPC) examination has a comprehensive selection process, which includes multiple stages.

  • First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT 1)
  • Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT 2)
  • Skill Test or Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Examination

First stage Computer-Based Test (CBT)

RRB NTPC stage 1 is common for all posts. According to the exam pattern, the duration of the test is 90 minutes for 100 questions. Stage 1 comprises three sections: General Awareness (40 questions), Mathematics (30 questions) and General Intelligence & Reasoning (30 question). + 1 marks is awarded for every correct answer and there is negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer. The 1st stage of CBT is qualifying in nature, marks scored in this stage is not included in the preparation of merit.

Second stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

For RRB NTPC  2nd Stage CBT shall be taken separately for each of the pay Level. For example, there are some posts like Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist  Level, all these posts come under pay level 2, so there will be common CBT Stage 2 for all these posts. Similarly All other posts falling within same pay level will have a common 2nd stage CBT. If candidates are eligible for more than one level of posts as per their educational qualifications, they have to give common 1st stage CBT and corresponding 2nd stage CBT for each level.

The duration of 2nd Stage CBT is 90 minutes for 120 questions and it comprises 3 sections: General Awareness (50 questions), Mathematics (35 questions), and General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 questions). + 1 marks is awarded for every correct answer and there is negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer. The merit preparation is solely done on the basis of scores

Typing Skill Test or Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for specific posts

The process of skill tests or Computer Aptitude tests varies depending on the position, there are also posts in which there are no typing skill test or CBAT. Skills test according to post given below

Computer Based Aptitude Test – For Station Master (The candidates need to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify).
Typing Skill Test – for the position of Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist (The candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi).

NOTE – For positions like Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Goods Guard, and Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, there will be no skill test or CBAT.

Document verification

Candidates who qualify in both 2nd Stage CBT and CBAT/typing skill test candidates are called for document verification.  The number of candidates called for this stage is based on the available vacancies and individual merit.

Medical examination

It is the final stage of the examination process after document verification candidate undergo medical examination. candidate who passes medical examination are given appointment letter by the respective Railway Administrations.
