Global Innovation Index 2023
The Global Innovation Index provides a reference for measuring an economy’s innovation performance. A number of countries use the GII to assess and improve their innovation ecosystems and bring in necessary reforms in economic planning. The annual release of the Global Innovation Index is carried out by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Starting from 2007, the Global Innovation Index (GII) has played a pivotal role as a critical reference for countries endeavoring to devise new strategies in innovation and economic policies. It also serves as a means to elevate the measurement of innovation metrics.
When Will Global Innovation Index 2023 Release?
WIPO is all set to launch the 16th edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) on 27 September 2023. GII will be released through a hybrid event scheduled to be held from 13:30 PM to 15:30 PM. The declaration of the Global Innovation Index (GII) will be followed by a panel discussion on “Innovation in the face of uncertainty”.

The full form of WIPO is World Intellectual Property Organization. WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property (IP) services, policy, information and cooperation.It was founded on 14 July 1967. It is headquartered in Geneva. It is a self-funding agency with 193 member states. India was not a founder member of WIPO. It aims to lead the development of a balanced and effective international IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
Global Innovation Index 2022
The GII 2022 outlined the positive effects of two novel innovation waves. These two novel innovation waves involve a digital age innovation wave built on supercomputing, artificial intelligence, and automation and a Deep Science innovation wave built on breakthroughs in biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, new materials, and other sciences. The theme of the Global Innovation Index 2022 was “What is the future of innovation-driven growth?”. Global Innovation Index used the following indicators to rank countries- ‘institutions’, ‘human capital and research’, ‘infrastructure’, ‘market sophistication’, ‘business sophistication’, ‘knowledge and technology outputs’, and ‘create outputs’.

It is evident that Switzerland has secured the Global Innovation Index 2022 1st rank. Switzerland is the most innovative economy in the world for the 12th year in a row. It is followed by the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
