GATE Application Form 2018
- IIT Guwahati has released GATE 2018 application form on August 31, 2017 for all eligible candidates.
- The application form of GATE 2018 is available in the online mode only.
- The last date to fill the GATE application form 2018 is October 5, 2017.
- The entire application process will be done through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
- Candidates need not send any hard copy of their application form to any of the IIT’s zonal GATE offices.
- GATE 2018 application form procedure involves registration, filling personal and academic details, uploading photograph, signature and payment of application fees.
- While filling the application form of GATE 2018, the candidates will also have to select three exam centres.

What to Keep Ready Before Filling GATE Application Form 2018?
The following documents must also be kept ready by the candidates before filling GATE 2018 Application Form:
- Photograph and signature of the candidate has to be kept scanned and ready by the candidates for uploading. The detailed specifications of the documents are mentioned below.
- Valid Photo Identity Card (Driving License/ Passport/ PAN Card/ Voter ID/ Aadhaar UID/ College ID/ Employee Identification Card/ Notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address). For International students valid proofs are Passport/ Government Issued ID/ College ID/ Employee ID.
- Candidates who have completed their graduation in 2018 or earlier – Degree Certificate/ Provisional Certificate/ Course Completion Certificate.
- In case of final year students – Copy of the Marks Sheet of the fifth or sixth or seventh semester as the case may be.
- Final year students – Provisional Certificate Letter as per format issued by the Head of Institute/ Dean/ Registrar/ Head of Department.
- For candidates in final year of AMIE – mark sheet for section A of AMIE in case of professional equivalent qualifications.
- Caste Certificate (if applicable) as per given format.
- Disability or PwD Certificate (if applicable) as per given format.
- Candidates who are pursuing higher degree or masters must submit the qualifying degree certificate or provisional one.
- Candidates with backlogs must upload copy of any of the mark sheet of the final year issued from the Institute where studying.
Important: Internet downloaded marks sheet shall not be accepted.
How to Fill GATE Application Form 2018?
The candidates are required to follow the given six step process to successfully fill and submit the application form of GATE 2018.

Step 1 – Registration through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS)
- Registration: To be able to fill the application form of GATE 2018, candidates will be required to register themselves first through GOAPS. For that, candidates will have to provide their full name (as per their qualifying degree certificate), valid email ID (only one person can register through one email address), mobile number and by choosing a password of their own choice. Candidates are required to provide their personal mobile number and email address. All communications from the GATE Offices will be sent to this email address or SMS. For international students however, all communication will be sent through email.
- Enrolment Number: Each GOAPS registered candidate will be provided an Enrolment ID. After registration, an email containing the GOAPS Enrolment ID will be sent to the candidate through SMS and Email. This Enrolment ID will be the reference ID for all future communications.
- OTP:Candidates will also receive an OTP to be used to verify their mobile number while filling the GATE application form 2018. This OTP will be sent through SMS also.
- Password: Candidates will be required to choose a password with an Enrolment ID. This password must be remembered along with GOAPS Enrolment ID to login to GOAPS. Candidates will have to ensure that their selected password is unique. It is advised that the candidates avoid using their name, date of birth or some string of numbers/ letters. This should be done to ensure that the password is not misused.
Step 2 – Filling of GATE Application Form
In the next step of GATE 2018 application form, the candidates will have to enter all of the required information and submit it. But first they have to login by entering their GATE 2018 Enrolment ID or their registere Email along with the password. Next they must agree to the declaration by checking the given box. Then they must click on the “Start the GATE 2018 application” button to fill their form. The details which have to be provided are:
- Personal Details: Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Personal Mobile Number, Parent’s Name, Email ID, Parent’s Mobile Number and more has to be submitted. It is to noted that the name of the candidate in the application form must be exactly the same as that in the qualifying degree certificate or the certificate issued by the Head of the Department/ Institute in which the candidate is pursuing his or her study. The scorecard of GATE 2018 will be issued according to the name entered in the application form. Candidates are not required to add prefixes or titles such as Mr, Shri, Dr, Mrs, Smt etc before their name in the application form.
- Academic Details or Eligibility Degree Details: The candidates will be required to enter all of their details regarding their academics. Information about the candidate’s undergraduate degree has to be submitted. Candidates are required to submit the scanned copy of the Eligibility Certificate in PDF format (Degree Certificate or Provisional Certificate in the specified format).
- Contact Information: The address and contact information of the candidates has to be provided. The PIN code has to be mentioned in the address provided by the candidate.
- College Information: If a candidate is in his or her last year of qualifying exam and appearing in GATE 2018, then it is important to provide a certificate from the head of the department of the college or institute, they are into along with the PIN code of the same. - GATE Paper: Candidates will have to fill in the GATE paper they will be appearing for in the exam.
- GATE Exam Centres: While filling the online application form the candidates will have to submit three preferred exam centres from the provided list. Candidates can choose two GATE centres from their zone and one from other zone.
- Valid Photo ID: Details regarding the photo ID which the candidates will carry for the examination will have to be submitted. The valid proofs are Passport/ PAN card/ Voter ID/ Aadhaar-UID/ College ID/ Employee ID/ Driving License.
- Candidate’s Image: It is required for candidates to upload a high quality recent and color image of their own, conforming to the requirements specified.
- Candidate’s Signature: It is required for candidates to upload good quality image of their signatures, conforming to the requirements specified.
- Scanned copies of the following: Category (SC or ST) Certificate (if applicable). Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL category will have to show their category certificate during admissions. Scanned copy of the PwD Certificate (if applicable) in PDF format, Scanned copy of the Dyslexic Certificate (if applicable) in PDF format.
- Net-banking/ debit card/ credit card details for fee payment: Candidates are required to provide all their banking or card details for the purpose of fee payment.
Step 3 – Uploading of Required Documents
During the next step of GATE 2018 application form, the candidates will have to upload their scanned photograph, signature and thumb impression as per the specifications mentioned below in the table. The candidates will also have to upload their eligibility certificates. Category certificates have to be uploaded if applicable.
The candidates are advised to keep the list of documents and other details ready before they try to fill the application form of GATE 2018. This will ease the process for candidates who can avoid any delays while filling the GATE application form 2018.

Step 4 – Preview of Filled Application Form
Before the payment of fees, the candidates will be shown a “Preview” of the filled GATE 2018 application form. In the preview, the candidates can check for any mistakes made while filling the application form of GATE 2018. Editing and corrections can be done. After all changes are made, the candidates will have to select “Confirm and Final Submit”. No changes can be done after confirmation.
Step 5 – Payment of Application Fees
After the required documents are uploaded in the application form of GATE 2018, the candidates will have to pay the application fees. Candidates will be redirected to the payment gateway webpage, which will provide the payment options. The fees can be paid online (net banking or debit/ credit card). According to the prevailing norms, additional online transaction charges or bank charges can be applicable. These charges will be specified on the payment portal. The fees amount and bank charges will be shown to the candidates and they will have to confirm that the payment is for GATE 2018. Once confirmed and payment is successfully made, candidates will be redirected back to GOAPS website from where they will be able to download the PDF Copy of application form by clicking “Download Application Form” button.
In case, a candidate suffers problem due to bad internet connection and is not sure that payment has been made or not, then they will have to login back to GOAPS after sometime and check the status of the payment.
The status of the payment can also be checked from the bank account. In case, the payment amount has been deducted from the account and GOAPS does not acknowledge fees payment, then money will be credited back to the account. This process may take a week or so, after the closure of the application process.Candidates may initiate fresh payment on GOAPS without waiting for the money to be credited to their bank account. This will ensure that application submission will be on time. (within the deadline)
The application fee is neither refundable nor transferable.
The candidates who belong to SC/ ST/ PwD category will have to upload a valid documentary evidence for concession in fees.

Step 6 – Submission of Filled Application Form
After registration, GATE application form 2018 must be filled and submitted online at GOAPS. Candidates should note that making application through a third person should be avoided. If someone else (friend or internet cafe person) is filling the application form of GATE 2018 on behalf of the candidate, then it is to be ensured that the data submitted is correct. This practice is encouraged to avoid errors in the application form of GATE 2018. It is important that candidate fills-in all the details in GOAPS without any error. The application is liable to be rejected if there is an error.
Steps to Check GATE 2018 Application Status
- All the application forms of GATE 2018 will be scrutinised in terms of the accuracy of the data which includes uploading supporting documents, clarity of the photograph and signature of the candidates.
- If everything will be found in order, the application form will be accepted. If not, defects will be highlighted in the form and candidate will be informed about the same for rectification purpose.
- Candidates will have to make changes within a stipulated time frame. The status and defects identified in the application form will be intimated to the candidates through email and/ or SMS.
- The current status of the application will be updated after its receipt and scrutiny by the respective zonal GATE offices.
- Candidates can check the status of their application form anytime by logging into through their GOAPS email ID and password.
- It is important to note that failing to rectify the defects in GATE application form within the stipulated time period can lead to the rejection of the application and no further communication will be entertained in this regard.
Forgot Enrolment ID or Password?
In case the candidates forget their enrollment id or password, a series of options are present to check their lost credentials and log into their account.
- Forgot Enrolment ID or not received their Enrolment ID via Email – The candidates will have to select this option and submit their registered mobile number and password. The enrolment ID will be sent via SMS to the candidate’s mobile number.
- Forgot Password – In this case, the candidates will have to provide their enrolment ID and password. Similarly, the password will be sent to the registered mobile number.
- Forgot Enrolment ID and Password – The candidate who has paid the fees will have to contact their zonal office. If the candidate has not paid yet then he/ she will have to register themselves again.
GATE 2018 Application Form Correction
After the submission of the GATE application form 2018, the candidates will be allotted a period of time for correction of submitted information. The candidates will have to send an email titled “Correction in data (Enrollment Number)” to the authorities along with the document proof to correct their wrong information. The correction fee also has to be paid if required. However, all submitted information will not be open for change. The candidates will be able to change only the following categories:
- Name of the candidate (minor change in spelling)
- Date of birth (minor change in year)
- Name of Parent/Guardian (minor change in spelling)
- Category status from General to OBC and OBC to General
- Have you graduated in the above degree (changes in Yes/No)
- Year of Qualifying Degree (minor change in year)
