Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Job Title: MySQL Database Administrator – E3
Education Qualification & Work Experience Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Computer Science or IT or equivalent technical discipline)
  • Minimum 5+ Years of experience with Oracle MySQL 5.7 and 8.0

Role and Responsibilities:

  • This position is accountable for operating, and continuously monitoring Database and Tools Infrastructure that support Comcast’s customer facing applications, back-office, and provisioning infrastructure in a 7*24 environment.
  • Examples of infrastructure include, but are not limited to large-scale server complexes, multi-terabyte DBs, and developing/supporting enterprise class management and monitoring tools.
  • Position’s focus on providing database availability and stability; resolving break/fix scenarios, engaging broader teams as necessary; and partnering/leading vendors and regions to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Contributes to command and control related activities focused on restoration of complex outages, communication across Comcast, and rapid restoration. Works and directly leads external vendors, 3rd parties, and associated agencies when necessary to address issues across the infrastructure.
  • Takes lead on issue resolution activities, using knowledge of complex and company-wide systems.
  • Decisions serve as precedents for future issues.
  • Functions independently. Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range objectives.
  • Determines and pursues course of action necessary to achieve results.
  • You will be participating in multi-disciplined teams that will lead the standards for different technologies
  • Required to interact and work closely with vendors, business users and application development groups.
  • Experience of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM.
  • Experience in MySQL and 5.x and 8.x Schemas database versions, Experience in MySQL Enterprise Monitoring.
  • Understanding and Troubleshooting MySQL Replication issues (MasterMaster) (MaserSlave).
  • Experience in MySQL Query Analyzer.
  • Experience on MySQL Workbench.

Core Requirements:

  • Maintain and follow database availability, replication and backup & recovery policy, service level agreement, access to production.
  • Required Engineer to work on solutions which requires interaction with other engineering teams like Storage, Systems, Platforms, Networks and Backup & Recovery
  • Develop the necessary automation for routine database work that be used by other teams.
  • Provide solid documentation and records supporting work and deliverables Test and document best practices
  • Conduct proactive performance, capacity and availability audits.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance existing database systems and infrastructure.
  • Required to work on a shift rotation and work after hours including weekends.

Applies advanced DBMS methodologies in one or more application and engineering areas.
Contributes to the development of new principles & concepts.
Advanced oral & written communication skills
Knowledge of DBMS concepts, skills and their application along with architecture and design
Willingness and aptitude to learn and deploy new technologies
