As a Director of Clinical Software Product Management in the Optum Technology Team, you shape a product’s vision, strategy and features to exceed end-user expectations and delight our clients. You work with software development professionals to craft innovative solutions using cutting edge technologies like big data, machine learning, biometric device tracking, and more.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of micro-products and teams working in the healthcare utilization management space
  • Formulate and maintain a product strategy, vision, and pricing approach
  • Gather and assess business goals, market research, and other inputs to formulate product features that offer competitive advantage
  • Develop business cases and secure funding for strategic features, presenting proposals to senior leadership for approval
  • Manage delivery across multiple teams working on core platform development, product development and custom implementation to ensure consistency and alignment
  • Work with clients, end-users and stakeholders to understand needs and opportunities, rationalize feature requests and add to a common backlog
  • Manage consolidated roadmap and backlog, prioritizing feature requests based on business value, product alignment, and differentiation
  • Manage a stakeholder council, regularly communicating updates and gathering feedback
  • Prioritize and re-evaluate requirements throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure business objectives and product vision are being met. Attend scrum team demos and offer constructive feedback.
  • Guide and collaborate with product owners supporting initiatives in your portfolio to ensure consistency and alignment
  • Coach and mentor other product owners

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in any software development and / or product development role
  • 3+ years of experience facilitating product feature or requirements development – gathering input to formulate product features, functions and requirements with clients and/or end-users
  • 3+ year(s) of experience directly or indirectly managing others (i.e. matrix environment)
  • 3+ year(s) of experience working in an Agile, Scaled Agile or Scrum environment
  • 3+ years of experience working in the prior authorization/utilization management space in a healthcare company (payer or provider side). Strong working knowledge of operational processes, economics, and technology supporting these functions.
  • 2+ year(s) of experience creating and analyzing process flow diagrams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Big Data, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, or delivering Software as a Service
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must
  • Ability to understand the IT landscape and its limitations and possibilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/assignments and competing priorities
  • Ability to maintain focus and a positive attitude in ambiguous or high pressure situations
  • Professional demeanor, comfortable in client-facing role
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment which requires creativity and self-motivation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables) and Visio
  • Familiarity with software engineering principles
  • Agile, Scaled Agile or Scrum related certification (product owner, agile leader, etc.)
