Job Description – Design Management
Definition:
This role is also known as automotive stylists, and is a specialized industrial designers who combine their technical knowledge of mechanics, production, and materials with artistic talent to improve the style, appearance, ergonomic and aerodynamic design of automobiles.
Role: Manage the entire Design life-cycle through various teams and specialists. The role will work on managing all administrative and people centric decisions including but not limited to garnering customer insights & market trends awareness, defining the product as per its brand identity & handling the end-to-end program management.
Design the product with established knowledge of style, appearance, ergonomics & aerodynamics. The role needs to confer with the product development team to address several issues. What is the theme and concept of the new vehicle What are specific functions expected by the manufacturer What are the expectations of the consumer Who are the consumers Automotive designers take these concerns into consideration as well as the and shape of the vehicle, its weight, color, and materials used. They also must take into account how this new model will fit into the existing product portfolio, safety of the vehicle, and cost of the final product.
Role needs to focus on the interior and exterior specifications of a new model. In this capacity, designers are concerned with the ergonomic placement of controls on the instrument panel, including controls for the overhead lights, doors, windows and side mirrors. The role must adhere to safety standards as established by the government, while at the same time ensuring that the interior design theme meshes with the product exterior design.
This role is responsible for the product definition as per the brand identity. Along with this, the role would be researching on benchmarking popular trends and path-breaking design techniques. Guiding the team towards the right selection of colors, fabrics, graphic and materials. This role will additionally oversee the overall success of the Design Studio and will be responsible for all the technology upgrades and & proto development.
People Management:

  1. Manage the creative leads, studio engineers and modeller to design/develop a range of concept design & production models as well as updating existing product designs
  2. Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability
  3. Motivate and coach the team to operational success
  4. Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems
  5. Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them
  6. Lead the team in new product development projects
  7. Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
  8. Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware
  9. Ensure that the function operates in accordance with all health safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
  10. Provide technical expertise to the team

Financial Budget and Control:

  1. Hold responsibility for departmental budget
  2. Cost projects and managing projects to agreed budgets

Relationship Management:

  1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  2. Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy
  3. Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market change and potential effects on design and development.
  4. Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost
  5. Stay current and up to date on any new design inspiration and technology that may affect overall design and development of the product and advise others of any impact
  6. Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on design activities

Skills and Attributes:

  1. 1 to 4 years of experience in an automotive environment.
  2. Able to demonstrate experience of working with relevant products
