Back ground
Business Analyst is the person who understands the business better. He is the person who plays the role of a bridge between the business team (customer) and the technical team (service provider). He also knows the optimal solution to the business problem and if needed he helps the client to select the best solutions out of the set of proposed solutions.
Additionally, he is the single point of contact for the technical team. In case of any query that they might face, they reach none other than the Business Analyst.
He is the person who gathers the requirement and solely responsible for the same. This is not as easy as to listen. If he misses something while gathering requirement, it can create a blunder especially in complex applications.
Also, he is the person who prepares questionnaire and conduct interview of different SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) involved.
Career to BA:
In order to become a Business Analyst, it is not necessary that you start your career as a BA. However, if you get a BA profile post your graduation then the goal is met. If not, then your aim should be getting a job in the IT Industry first. Once you start working you should try to get involved in any projects or change activities that are going on within your organisation. This could include helping with testing, contributing ideas to workshops or even designing/writing procedure manuals. This may mean that you get to work with business analysts, or understand more the work that they do (In essence, work as a Shadow Resource). It will also provide you with examples you can relate to when it comes to applying for a BA position.
Additionally, if possible, start exploring different domains like Investment Banking, Retail Banking, Payments, Telecom, Aviation, Energy etc.
Cheers!
