Mobile Passport Police Application

Police plays an important role to deliver passports and related services such as Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) to the citizens. In the various models for police verification implemented across the nation, the status of intermediate activities related to verification process are not recorded / tracked in the system. This is mainly because most of the activities involved in the verification process essentially include exchange of physical documents (PP Forms) across District Police Headquarter (DPHq), Thana, Criminal Investigation Department (CID)/ Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) and Field Verification teams, and contributes most to the delays in the overall Police Verification Report (PVR) processing time.

With the advent of mobile technologies and accessibility to internet over smart phones, use of Android based affordable, wide screen smart phones / tablets has enormously increased in India u2013 Police staff being no exception to this revolution. Many Indian National and State Government departments have expressed interest towards e-Governance / paperless operations with mobility (m-Governance) and are setting more stringent timelines / service levels for providing service to the citizens. Accordingly, a strong need has been felt by State Police departments to eliminate paper work / delays related to Thana / Field level processing using smart phones / tablets.

Accordingly, a custom mobile application (mPassport Police App) has been proposed for Thana and Field Verification processing teams in order to improve the overall PVR processing cycle time. The app is available for download to the Police Station users who are already accessing the PSP Police (Web) Application for the purpose of Police Verification processing of the Passport Services applicants for recording the inputs of field verification processing done at the applicant’s address.
