Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of taxation for Steam Power businesses in South Asia (i.e. planning, structuring, commercial tax, reporting, & compliance) of various legal entities including a listed entity in India with the independent Board of Directors. This includes leveraging & partnering with the GE Steam Power and GE Corporate tax teams & the primary tax service provider in meeting all tax responsibilities. Direct the overall tax strategy.
- Partner with Steam Power India senior management, Global and India CFOs and functional teams on critical business issues including commercial deals, acquisition/dispositions, and key operational issues
- Lead in the analysis and resolution of all complex tax issues. Lead direct and indirect tax planning and compliance for Steam Power.
- Supporting sales efforts and negotiations with customers on deals w.r.t. tax issues, structuring of deals/ transactions to ensure tax efficiencies, planning for PE issues, transfer pricing policies, GST, Customs, Personal taxes, etc
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to reduce tax expense, eliminate tax exposures, minimize audit deficiencies, and maintain a competitive effective tax rate.
- Oversee tax operations in India for timely delivery of all tax compliance services (direct and indirect) and all internal tax operations processes for the GE Steam Power business in South Asia region.
- Ensure flawless operational execution, controllership, and risk management for the tax function in India. This includes working closely with the GE Steam Power HQ Tax teams, the GE Corporate Tax teams & PWC
- Ensure timeliness, accuracy & adequacy of business tax filing processes as well as driving best practice process on internal GAAP and Stat accounting and reporting for taxes.
- Develop and manage specific tax FP&A reporting metrics and P&L impacts to enable other stakeholders to make informed decisions about existing business and tax operations. Identify, own and raise cash tax refund opportunities that arise to ensure business has maximized tax CFOA.
- Drive special projects, including team transformation and management of tax audits together with external advisors
- Stay abreast on tax legislation, changes in tax regime, evaluate implications for the company, support in decision-making, communication and compliance
- Lead the Tax advocacy initiatives with multiple Government bodies at different levels.
- Lead the transition of tax operations processes to Genpact
- Represent the tax matters / litigation with various tax authorities
- Perform / co-ordinate on tax due diligence for potential M&A opportunities
- Act as talent developer by providing leadership development opportunities and exposure to the tax team members. Set high standards of performance by setting priorities, reviewing performance from time to time. Drive a culture of recognition and motivate team to deliver high performance.
- Mange relationship with external services providers with the focus on reducing spend for tax compliance services.
- Additional tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Accounting, Finance or Law
- 12+ years of experience in taxation or as a tax professional working on multi-national clients tax-related matters or other GE’s businesses
- Significant experience with tax laws in India
- Fluency in English (both verbal and written)
Desired Characteristics
- Post-graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or with significant academic focus on taxation from accredited university or college
- Certified Public Accountant certificate or equivalent professional license is preferred
- Ability to evaluate complex proposals and anticipate, identify, and resolve tax-related risks and opportunities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- PC proficiency
- Experience working in a matrix environment
