Role description
Position: Finance Controller- India
Location: Bengaluru
Reporting to: Group Financial Officer, APAC
Works with: Country Manager, Business Heads, Functional Leaders, Finance counterparts (Pall and Danaher)
Reportees: 4 Direct reports
Summary of the Role
The India Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting for all assigned entities. This position will be responsible for building and developing a strong accounting team and developing strategies for use of accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely US GAAP and Statutory financial statements as well as a strong SOX environment.
The India Controller manages a finance team responsible for all compliance related tasks (Accounting, Tax & Stats, SOX and GL support) to ensure that work is completed in a timely, compliant accurate and efficient manner. The India Controller is a key member of the Pall APAC Finance leadership team.
Specific Responsibilities that you would own:
Talent Management
Lead, manage and motivate a team of 4 finance associates.
Resource development and deployment including hiring, training and coaching, performance management, talent development and reward and recognition Active engagement around succession and development planning
Controllership
Establish a strong team structure to meet current and future needs: develop, mentor direct reports, emphasizing professional development and personal growth through regular performance reviews against agreed objectives and development plans.
Oversight responsibility for regional financial reporting, external financial reporting and indirect tax compliance and SOX controls. Ensuring that operationally have adequate systems of internal controls and suitable monitorin g procedures are in place to ensure integrity of the financial statements and ensure that all business risks are properly identified, addressed and reported.
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end closes, including overview of balance sheet summaries and account reconciliations to conf orm to audit requirements.
Leverage the CFS (global financial shared service center in Malaysia) & CO COE teams to deliver continuous improvement in the cost of transaction processing.
Proactively drive process improvement, identify quick win opportunities, target high return improvements and seek to eliminate/reduce non-value-added activities to meet India, APAC and global finance objectives.
Oversight of India Indirect tax processes (including systems), including process improvement recommendations and managing the implementation of those
Oversight of the country statutory activities, ensuring standard procedures are put in place where possible to facilitate this and that the structure is as efficient & effective as possible.
Act in an advisory capacity to the Board of Directors for statutory related matters
Work with country leaders & legal on approvals and board resolutions
Business Partnering
Support Country, Business Units & Functions leadership as a proactive business partner.
Develop a climate of balancing business partnerships while challenging business decisions.
Prepare and maintain yearly budgets and forecasts monitoring variances from budget/forecasts and communicating variances with local management team & Corporate finance on monthly basis. Perform root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement.
Ensures company policies are communicated clearly and administered in compliance with all financial practices/ laws and reporting requirements.
Other responsibilities
Provision of ad-hoc information as requested and duties assigned by GFO and Corporate Management.
Leverage best practices to drive process improvement and standardization.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate Degree in Accounting with at least 10 years plus of business experience
Language skills – Strong spoken & written English
Essential Previous Experience:
Experience of managing teams by being a hands-on leader
At least 8 years of business experience
Experience of statutory and indirect tax reporting
Position Competencies (must haves for the position):
Strong technical (including knowledge of US / Local GAAP and IFRS) understanding
Strong communication and analytical skills
Acts decisively and able to influence others
Manage & coordinate internal & external Audit requirements
Proven track record of meeting commitments and achieving deadlines with the highest standards of ethics and integrity
Self-motivated, proactive, flexible, and ability to deal with competing priorities and deadlines
Good understanding of financial controls, SOX, Corporate Governance and risk management
Actively seek Business Process Improvements and explore new methodologies/procedures
Reacts well to rigorous, fast-moving culture
Knowledge and experience of SAP or equivalent integrated ERP system and
Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Good working knowledge of SAP or equivalent integrated ERP system
Other expectations:
