Eaton’s FED division is currently seeking a Plant Controller to join our team. This position is based at our Tijuana facility.
The Plant Controller is responsible for reports directly to Aerospace Fluid & Electrical Distribution Division Finance Director and functionally to the Plant Manager. This role is instrumental to manage the financial performance of the Tijuana Plant in meeting its financial objectives, including analysis of forecasts and actual performance, business drivers, and operational metrics.
This role will develop forward-looking insights to drive management decision, actions and improve operational and financial results. The Plant Controller provides proactive leadership around issues and opportunities, driving short-term actions to achieve current results, while supporting the deployment of progressive strategies which result in a sustainable competitive advantage and strong financial return on investment. The Plant Controller provides technical competency to ensure compliance with corporate financial policies, legal requirements and GAAP. This role is responsible for business process improvements within the plant and division, creates and implements procedures to improve the internal control environment, streamlines efforts and provides increased transparency of financial results. This position is responsible for building organizational capability within the finance function by hiring and developing finance personnel. The position also ensures assets assigned by the corporation are adequately protected and provide operations management with financial guidance necessary to produce the expected return on those assets.

Some activities related with the position will be:

  • Plan, coordinate and direct the financial function. Develop and coordinate plant strategic and profit plans, monthly forecasts, goals & objectives, financial reconciliations, reports and analysis for plant management, including variance analysis and cost control reporting and recommendations.
  • Advice and counsel plant manager and plant leadership staff on financial implications of operating strategies, cost control actions and decisions. Daily leadership and participation in tiered meetings that support meeting short- and long-term objectives. Support the Plant Manager and Leadership staff as a business partner, providing financial analysis and advice to the management team.
  • Manage, analyze, evaluate and interpret plant financial forecasts and operating results. Inform management of results and recommend corrective actions to address unfavorable variances.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate financial data and information for accuracy, consistency and transparency. Maintain integrity of financial reports prepared by the plant.
  • Interpret, implement and monitor corporate policies and procedures, ensure financials are reported in compliance with US GAAP and local statutory requirements.
  • Develop and implement budgeting and financial reporting systems to provide timely and relevant information to plant, division, and corporate management and cost control. Control and maintain adequate product costing systems for valuation and cost estimating activities.
  • Ownership of account reconciliation process to maintain integrity of plant general ledger and its supporting sub-systems. Assess adequacy of reserves and overall financial reporting. Ensure adequate training and oversight is provided to all finance personnel to ensure account reconciliations meet Eaton’s requirements. Provide leadership and support for the Balance Sheet Review process.
  • Establish, monitor and maintain a system of internal controls that safeguards company asset and provides for integrity and propriety of financial transactions and activities. Compliance with corporate policy, including SOX.
  • Evaluate and approve plant capital appropriation requests prior to Division and Aerospace Group management approval. Monitor and report purchase commitments and spending for all capital programs. Conduct follow-up audits to ensure compliance for all significant capital investments.
  • Manage hiring, training and development of plant financial staff. Establish a work environment that encourages individual career development and growth in order to provide adequate and qualified financial professionals opportunity for advancement.
  • Manages the deployment of cost saving and other programs to provide operating economies and improve profitability. Monitors and provides opportunities to support continuously improving Plant Productivity / Gross Utilization / Flex Productivity. Support other Operations initiatives including EBE, MESH, ELSS and other BPI efforts.
  • Ensures that the appropriate plant quality policy and system are thoroughly implemented in the finance function. Ensure all finance responsibilities are defined and communicated throughout the plant with specific responsibilities and appropriate timing. Ensures the deployment of finance standard work.
  • Provide leadership to ensure adequate cost accounting processes are in place, including standard cost updates, physical inventory verification, periodic cycle counts, etc. Directs the development, preparation and implementation of accounting procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation as well as to develop & mentor the finance team.
  • Lead ad hoc projects as required including appropriate ERP implementations and system upgrades, business development initiatives such as new business opportunities, financial review of development contracts, appropriate revenue recognition and project accounting, as applicable.
  • Support Commercial analysis and activities with both suppliers and customers; this includes Project Gate reviews, preparation of New Business Reviews (NBR’s), and analysis of business growth opportunities, analysis of supplier/customer cost-out initiatives, supplier selection, assessment of LTA’s, make/buy analysis, customer cost-out expectations, and pricing.
  • Support Lean activities to ensure optimum efficiencies are achieved, cost-out opportunities identified, and the financial impact accurately recorded. Coordinate expenditure requests, including review and approvals.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting. CPA/CMA/MBA Preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Sound working knowledge of GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley and Mexico statutory requirements.
  • Knowledge & understanding of Corp, region/division and plant reporting policies
  • Technical capability to prepare, analyze and interpret financial and operational data/reports.
  • Knowledge of integrated computer manufacturing and ERP systems.
  • Superior analytical and thinking skills; Intellectual rigor and curiosity; problem-solving capability.
  • Understanding of global business issues
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems to include word processing and spreadsheet software (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
