Network Engineer Skills

  • Expert level experience designing and supporting Cisco, Arista and Palo Alto network routers and switches
  • Expert level experience designing and supporting Arista, Palo Alto and Cisco PIX/ASA firewalls, intrusion detection devices and load balancers
  • Expert level experience designing and supporting Cisco wireless access points utilizing HREAP
  • Expert level experience designing and supporting Palo Alto network security appliances utilizing BGP routing with IPSEC VPN
  • Expert level experience supporting Fatpipe WAN load balancers
  • Expert knowledge of various network routing methods including static routes, RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP and OSPF
  • Expert knowledge of network diagnostic and performance measurement software and tools including Wireshark, NTOP, Netflow, Solar Winds and various network and wireless security scanners
  • Strong knowledge of WAN optimization techniques
  • Strong knowledge of 802.11Q VLAN tagging and spanning tree
  • Strong knowledge of VoIP telephone systems and the SIP protocol
  • Strong knowledge of various data communication protocols, topologies, interfaces and services including T-1, ISDN, Frame Relay, xDSL, TCP/IP, Ethernet, Fiber Optics, RS-232, SNMP, V.35 and video.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Novell eDirectory
  • Working knowledge of Category 3/4/5/6 network cable design and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of DHCP, DNS and IP V4 network addressing

  • Strong knowledge of project management techniques. May serve in the role of project lead, assuming responsibility for oversight of most or all aspects of a project. Previous project management skills recommended include projects with the following characteristics:

  • Above average Excel skills; PeopleSoft, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time on a ladder, lift over 70 lbs at times

Network Engineer Responsibilities
Designs and maintains the local, wireless and wide area network that serves more than 187 Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation facilities in 18 states. Monitor for network outages, troubleshoot problems and install new systems. Measures network traffic to identify problems and ensure reliable performance. Responsible for designing and making the network reliable and secure. Oversees and monitors the progress of construction, cabling and equipment installation during short term and long-term projects. Resolves user problems according to established service level expectations and logs all service/trouble tickets in customer tracking system.
