Position Summary:
The SDConn Android Delivery Lead will supervise the SDConn engineering activities for Android platform and it’s derivative programs. S/he is responsible for the software development lifecycle in the planning, development, launch, and maintenance phases of a program. In this role the s/he will lead the definition of SW development strategies and methodologies for HARMAN´s products as a process champion, collaborating with his/her peers and stakeholders from BUs and CPMs. In this role the lead needs a profound background in Connectivity/Networking/Streaming technologies, integration processes, tools and best practices which s/he has gained through experience in large-scale embedded Mobile and Automotive Infotainment projects. The role requires an experienced, visionary leader to define and drive our platform/product/domain strategy; execute consistently, rapidly, and effectively to take ideas from concept to production; and mentor and grow our talented engineering organisation. The lead must develop, roll out and maintain a blueprint which supports the global goals of the BU Digital Cockpit regarding availability, cost efficiency, fast reactiveness and reliability in cost, schedule and quality. A strong but mediating personality and professional manner is required.

  • Work with BU and CPM leaders to institute consistent processes for (a) competitive benchmarking, (b) innovation management, and (c) influencing product & technology strategy
  • Attract, develop and retain a high performance technical staff across multiple locations
  • Coach, motivate and foster professional development of direct reports
  • Contribute to the architecture of the system, take responsibility for quality and stability of the product by getting hands-on with code and design reviews, debugging complex issues, among other things
  • Periodically apprise the management about ground realities
  • Being proactive in offering budgetary/resource support to peers/other teams
  • Identify existing productivity issues and opportunities, develop methods and systems to improve these functions, and manage their implementation
  • Identify opportunities for further enhancements and refinements to standards, processes and software solutions
  • Influence and establish best engineering practices through solid design decisions, processes, and tools
  • Ensure high quality of delivered software with best possible cost efficiency
  • Collaborate with project and development teams to ensure on time delivery of projects, production support plans, and knowledge transfer for long-term supportability of upgrades, enhancements, and deployments
  • Build and maintain relationships with global and virtual teams and third parties on software development or support issues
  • Operate with scale and speed and being able to deliver fast with high quality
  • Sound working knowledge in product compliance & certification process
  • Ensure the adherence of ASPICE Level 3 as per HARMAN BMS process

  • Being hands-on to solve complex technical challenges

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate leadership and vision for the Delivery group
  • Make decisions regarding software build content and timing including performance and features
  • Manage program risk proactively, identifies program risks and coordinate meetings with the PM and multi-discipline functions to address risks before they become issues
  • Independently identify, research, analyze and provide solutions to complex design problems
  • Evaluate project management processes and metrics to track and measure project success. (Manage all program/product delivery elements)
  • Provide program status updates to Sr. Management during the scheduled program, quality and operations reviews
  • Contribute substantially to innovation and overcome technology limitations to deliver quality software
  • Lead and conduct technical design reviews and readiness reviews to assure the quality of the design artifacts
  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
  • Developing a fun culture enabling high employee engagement and cohesive, collaborative teams across domains and locations
  • Lead the program adherence to follow standard Harman processes and maintain program and customer related documentation
  • Be the primary escalation point for both internal and external project software communications
  • Establish ways of working to streamline communications and create seamless dialogue for global activities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electronics/Electrical Engineering
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • 12-15 years of R&D experience with a background in the Mobile/ Automotive / Embedded industry
  • 5+ years in a leadership, engineering management, customer, supplier relationships, preferably in automotive software development
  • Must have architectural knowledge of Android, Linux, QNX and automotive infotainment systems
  • Proficiency in Connectivity, Networking and Streaming domains
  • Proven ability to lead diverse global teams to achieve cost, quality, and time to market commitments
  • Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and the customer
  • Proven and effective communication, analytical, judgment, initiative and execution skills
  • Experience in interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; counseling; rewarding and disciplining employees
  • Quick learner; self-starter, detailed and thorough
  • Passionate about improving education and seriously committed to helping build an organization from the ground up, even if things aren’t always easy

Preferred Qualifications:
2-5 years as engineering department leader; extensive knowledge of embedded/mobile/automotive system software, tools and processes gained through experience; successfully managed automotive infotainment projects of high complexity; successfully managed international and distributed teams. Has passion and convictions and the innate ability to inspire passion in others.
